CRUISE STATUS: Holland America had to unfortunately cancelled the 2020 Solar Eclipse Cruise of November including all ship departures through Dec. 15, 2020 due the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Holland America is offering two options for guests booked on this cruise:
- Get back all payments made including shore excursions or
- Use current deposit toward a future cruise worth double value.
This Future Cruise Credit (FCC) is good for one year from date of issue for any cruise up to Dec. 31, 2022.
Continental Capers can cancel for you or arrange for the FCC. Otherwise, you can use a Holland America form to choose options:
The decision date was Sept. 15, 2020. So, now Holland America will assume the FCC option was selected.
If you purchased Travelex Insurance, you can apply it to a future trip. (We will check for current policies.)
If you have any questions, concerns or wish for us to cancel for you, please contact us.
Meanwhile we are investigating future tours. Stay tuned.
Though we could not experience this eclipse in person, live streaming let us view the eclipse on-line.
See this image we created from a streaming site in central Argentina site.

EXPLORE the stunning beauty of the southern Chilean coast before voyaging to Antarctic ice fields. Then sail north to the Falkland Islands and a TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE off the Argentina coast on Holland America's ms Westerdam.
This unique and bucket-list itinerary begins in dynamic Santiago, capital of Chile and one of South America's largest cities and concludes in beautiful Buenos Aries, capital of Argentina. In addition, the ms Westerdam not only visits other important ports in Southern Chile, Uruguay and Argentina, but also traces a meandering path through dramatic inlets, fjords and spectacular glacier covered valleys surrounded by rugged mountains with chances to spot all kinds of land and sea wildlife.
After adventuring through the Strait of Magellan toward Cape Horn, cross the historic Drake Passage to cruise through bays and islands off the northern tip of the long Antarctic Peninsula, which reaches out toward South America. Encircled in a landscape of snow and ice in every direction, your ship will spend four days slowly navigating the iceberg-dotted waters of the Antarctic Peninsula, one of the fastest-warming regions in the world.
Finally cruise north to Stanley, the world's most southern capital in the Falkland archipelago, before heading north into Atlantic waters east of Argentina. Off coastal Argentina the ship will meet the Moon's shadow and a Total Eclipse of the Sun* before visiting Montevideo, Uruguay and fascinating Buenos Ares, Argentina. (See Itinerary.)
*2020 December 14 with about 2m07s of totality off Argentina coast. (See The Eclipse for more details.)
