Our twelve-day north and southbound cruise along the Norway coast from Bergen to above the Arctic Circle and back is aboard the Hurtigruten MS Nordlys. (She has two sister ships, MS Kong Harald and MS Richard With.) The ship is large but not huge with Deck 2 mostly reserved for cargo and cars. A top-notch dining room provides really good and abundant food with excellent service.
Note: Our original ship, MS Finnmarken, was taken out of service by Hurtigruten and has been replaced by the MS Nordlys, befitting since its name means "northern lights." (A side benefit is our guests will see costs reduced from about $240 to over $300 per person.)
Appointment
These ships combine small ship atmosphere with space, style and comfort. Each has its own design and displays of works of art by Norwegian artists. In the beautifully appointed public areas you'll be able to enjoy the passing scenery whatever the weather. Therefore, the MS Nordlys has its own unique character sporting different colors, materials, and designs. The MS Nordlys boasts decor inspired by its name, "Northern Lights" in English, with lavish use of wood, brass and textiles which creates a relaxing elegant atmosphere.
A Working Ship Hurtigruten Norwegian Coastal Cruise ships are working ferries and also passenger shipsthey sail the Norwegian coast delivering mail and goods to towns and villages. Still, most Hurtigruten ships look and feel like cruise ships. Unlike traditional cruises, however, there is no organized entertainment on board. Mother Nature provides your entertainment providing some of the most unbelievable scenery in the world with stops in wonderfully beautiful towns! A Norwegian Hurigruten Coastal Cruise is a unique alternative to traditional cruising.
