Observers of the Sun Must Use a Safe Solar Filter
CONTINENTAL
CAPERS WILL PROVIDE safe solar filters for non-optical
visual use by those who want to view the Sun without optical instruments
and search for Venus. (Venus's apparent diameter will be 58 arc
sec (one arc sec = 1/3600°.) We will also bring telescopes
to observe the transit. Guests can bring their own binoculars or
telescopes but each is responsible for supplying their own solar
filters to use with their own optical instruments. (Read eye
safety.)
A Multimedia Presentation
OUR
SCIENTIFIC ESCORT will also treat their guests to a fascinating,
educational and entertaining multimedia presentation about the transit
before the day of this event. This exciting presentation is for
a general audienceno knowledge of astronomy required! This
talk will outline topics in simple terms, clear pictures and interesting
animations. (Our "approachable
expert" has more than forty years communicating science
in understandable ways.)
- Learn about
one of nature's rare curiositiesan event few have seen before
- Find out
why transits were historically important & became a major
scientific goal
- Chronicle
journeys in quest of this event & discover what resulted
- Discover
that you will see a sight so rare no one now alive has ever seen!
